Context

A room fills up once because of a name. It fills up a second time for a different reason. Finding out what that reason is took three years of club nights, a concert series with an open call and a podcast with people who actually run the industry.

Role

We developed the concepts and curated the line-ups, ran the technical side, coordinated staff and volunteers, handled guest communication and managed the floor on the night.

Approach

We booked artists with a story rather than names everyone already knows. A familiar headliner fills a room once. An artist worth talking about is the reason the room fills again. Several editions paired performances with workshops, which gave people a reason to arrive early and something to take home.

The bigger shift was in how we judged our own events. We started by asking why people came. The more useful question turned out to be the opposite one. Why would I not come back to an event like this? We worked through the answers one at a time. Moving part of the programme into daylight instead of running everything after midnight came out of that, and it opened the format to audiences a club night never reaches.

Venues

We ran events at Renate, Humboldthain Club, Monarch and Remise in Berlin. Under the BM1 banner the format travelled further, to Ireland and Romania among other places, where local partners came on board.

YV2: concert series, 2025

YV2 started in Berlin in 2025 as a hip hop concert series built around a Y2K aesthetic. Artists applied to perform their own material, which turned the line-up into an open format instead of a closed booking. Gizeh and Becks joined as partners on individual editions.

BM1: podcast and events, 2024

BM1 took shape in early 2024 and combined a podcast on the electronic music industry with live events in Germany and abroad. Mika Heggemann, Andreas Henneberg and Niotech were among the guests.

Result

Close to 20 events between 2023 and 2025, produced or co-produced, in Berlin and internationally. The YV2 open call drew more than 50 artist applications in its first year. The podcast ran to seven episodes.
